Status of Free GPS40/45 connector:
Day 21 thru 39 are below:
On the internet you can change recorded history... I re-arranged the stuff below so it reads top to bottom as forward in time, so the oldest stuff (on this page) is at the top ... does this make sense? So now I add stuff to a page at the bottom, then when the page gets too big I start a new one and link it via "next status". I know if I screw up too much, you will just click right out of here.
Day 21, Monday:29Jan96 --- (pins too tight?
see Prior status)
I received 4 letters from you guys today (the first !). 3 contained
5 votes each.
wow, thank you Mario (IL), James (UT), and
Ken (CA)! Ken said that with his "votes" I should go
ahead and ship free connectors to Bora-Bora
you got it
Ken, Bora-Bora is back on the list, now no one is left out. (Maybe
someday I'll tell you about my trip to the French Polynesian island).
Don A. wants to know: "If one wanted to buy more connectors,
how much would you charge for them?" Well Don, I don't
know
your not the only one, and who knows maybe some cool
entrepreneur wants to make cool cables for whatever, they will
need to purchase them from us Open Project Guys
. Like a
bake sale to raise funds for the next Open Project (
how
about a plastic mount or "holster"?). We can define
Open Project group as cool guys that want a free connector. No
reason the group can't raise funds to offset the costs of the
project and even some for the next project.
. RIGHT?
The idea was to be FREE, but I understand that free doesn't work
for everything, so it will be like this. Anyone that asks for
a free connector, gets one! If you make a donation to the
idea, great, consider it a vote for a good idea. If you want to
buy a bunch of connectors, then "WE" (the Open Project
guys that like free things) will sell them for $3 ea. + S&H,
but only because we want to fund more Open Projects and get more
free stuff!
enough.
I got a "thanks" e-mail from Sweden
. so it takes
US Mail about one week! I don't think Canada has arrived yet!
figures,
it's only a few hundred miles, located on
the same continent, and a NAFTA member
will probably take
a few months.
Mario asked that I put Ardel's photo on the net. She won't let
me, but I found one that looks just like her (a few years ago),
so she can't get mad at me for that, (can she?)
ARDEL.
Day 22, Tuesday: 30Jan96
Received "votes" from Dennis AL, thanks Dennis. Got
a few emails, Dave (Canada) has some good ideas for the holster.
Colin (Vancouver) got his connector. If you think a holster is
a cool next Open Project, let me know, put "HOLSTER"
in the subject. Maybe I'll start a design page.
Day 24, Thursday: 1 Feb 96
Finally
a how to assemble the free connector diagram,
Rusty thought he may not be cool to ask
wrong Rusty
I was not cool to assume it was as clear
to others as it was to me, heck the designer is the last one to
know! So now we are both cool, ... thanks to Rusty.
Ardel went
to the post office today and picked up 2 days mail
Larry
(IL) thanks, the second one is in the mail Larry. Robert (MI),
Gardner (MA), Jerome (IA) , and Donn (TX)
thank you all
very much, your "votes" are registered.
Day 29, Wed: 6 Feb
Thanks for the donations: Brian (IL), Rusty (TX), David(MA), Peter(VA)
makes total of 11 donations with a grand total of $51 so
far. We shipped 10 to a cool guy in Canada who offered to pay $30 for
them, so when he pays, we'll have collected $81. Total shipments
so far are about 170. Where have I been? I bought a Casio QV-10 Digital Camera
very fun new toy. It is one reason this page is falling
behind.
Day 35, Monday, February 12, 1996
Thank you JL(The Netherlands), Lance(MT), Mark(TN), Whiskey 6 Hotel, TM(MD), and RR(NY) ... maybe there will be more open projects, your letters are encouraging. So far, 18 donations totaling $76.67, + $30 if the cool Canada guy makes good on his offer. ... have been falling behind a bit, I entered 10 more requests today, I've been saving up for a while, grand total now at 178 .... its late, got some home brew in the frig ... think I'll close up and walk home. Ardel will be home tomorrow!
Wednesday: 31Jan96
Goodbye January. Man, did you see the frozen B29 story? We shipped
10 connectors to Canada today, to a GARMIN representative going
to the annual Sportsman Show! He offered $30 plus shipping!
is this cool? We are selling to Garmin (indirectly).
I've run out of the "right size pins" so if your pins
are too tight, tell me and I'll send you a new connector body
that Ardel drilled out. I found
it faster to drill 'em than to make 'em and I have a few hundred
already made and the drilled ones work soooo good, why mess with
a good thing? If you want to drill it out yourself, go here and look for FIX ... to fix it yourself.
Day 38, Thursday, February 15, 1996
Thank you Colin (B.C.) ... very good. Anyone need insurance in Vancouver .... This is your man!
Well, I don't know if my e-mail machine is broke or what ... getting zip. Cyber Cash is coming!
Day 39, Friday, February 16, 1996
Thanks Michael (CA) ... anyone want to buy a house in Livermore?
Got several new requests today (Ireland, Netherlands, NY, MA, and CA.... new total: 185.
How to get a free connector for
your Garmin GPS 45 or 40
hand held Global Positioning System?
