From Quill. 1-800-789-1331, Item #962-000AK Air Kraft, Air Bubble Shippers by Astro-Valcour, Inc. Size code: 000, which is about 4x8 Minimum order, 1 box of 500 .... $72.96 ($0.15 each) Shipping is free (orders over $45) These are HEAT SEAL type. I use 2 old travel irons. Quill has a peal & stick type for a bit more money. If you want, we can send some to you at our cost + shipping. If you find a better deal, let us know. *** 3/97 Wisconsin, Pfranc Dave purchased 500 from Quill for less than my cost, and they are self sealing, AND he said he will send some to any US Pfranc, at his cost! Pfranc spirit at its best. If you haven't seen his "Pfrancly Speaking" page, check it out. *** 7/98 Ohio, Pfranc Doug has a good idea, he says; "Instead of buying padded mailers, I went to Wal-Mart and purchased a package of 6"x9" 'Catalog Envelopes' and some bubble-wrap. The peel-and-seal envelopes come 6 to a package for $0.88 and the bubble wrap is $1.97 for 16 square feet. Assuming 1/2 sq. ft. of bubble wrap per envelope, my cost is $0.06 per envelope for padding bringing my total cost per shipment to a whopping $0.21 plus postage and misc printer expenses! The truly frugal could re-cycle a local business's bubble wrap and cut the cost per order even more. The finished package is slightly larger but still only costs $0.44 to mail. Happy Pfrancing! We cut & paste the name, address, pledge amount, etc into a simple MS Access data base and setup a "report" to make mailing labels (with return address) 2 wide on plan paper. Ardel then uses a paper cutter to make individual labels and clear packing tape to attach them to the package. With the quantity behind the name in brackets she knows how many connectors to put in the AirKraft mailer and the only "paper work" we have, that is actually paper, is the label.
USPS (US Postal Service, see www.usps.gov) (3/97) one ounce is 43 cents ( 32 + 11 due to oversize), and we can send 3 connectors with our large return envelope, or 4 with our return address sticker in a AirKraft mailer for $0.43. We self insure the shipment which means if it gets lost, we send another or refund the pledge... :-) We give everyone a "satisfaction or don't pay your pledge guarantee."
$0.15 + $0.00 + $0.43 = $0.58 plus lots of caring, attention, work, and having to check e-mail and drive to the post office every day, all which may or may not be appreciated by the pledge. I forgot the cost of including a self addressed return envelope (SAE) (for the pledge money to come back to you in) ... it costs maybe 5 cents and $12 capitol outlay for a ink stamp. larry, (3/97)
