pPBT | Add Bluetooth to your Garmin handheld!Note: We also have a version for the eTrex models here: ePBT . Checkout GPSdash for PocketPC! It inputs NMEA and produces a great dashboard of information! With Bluetooth your Garmin will transmit position data to all other Bluetooth devices in the area; laptops, PDA's, phones, cameras, data recorders, etc. - wirelessly! Whats more, now you can use PDA's that don't have a serial port! Like my favorite one - a iPAQ 1945. Just like laptops, no more serial ports! This power cable (pPBT) plugs into any standard cigarette lighter socket. It not only supplies power to the Bluetooth transmitter/receiver and related intelligent control hardware but it also supplies 12V to your Garmin GPS. So it not only works great but will contine to work great on long trips without using up your batteries. Bluetooth is just awesome. A very robust powerful wireless network. I also discovered GPSDash (shareware), downloaded it from the net, "sync-ed it" into my iPAQ 1945 from my laptop, set my Garmin geko to demo mode, start up GPSDash, noticed my iPaq Bluetooth setup, Serial Port, Outbound COM Port: 5, Inbound COM Port: 8, which I don't understand, so I tried both in GPSDash and COM 5 worked! Just start GPSDash, select the "GPS" tab, then "Configure", then select COM5, OK, then "GPS" again, and now "Plain Connect" and it will startup a Bluetooth Browser which will list "BT - GPS". It may take a few seconds to be discovered. Select it and see the LED on our pPBT stop flashing and go solid which means you're connected - wirelessly. The NMEA data should be flowing in and you can watch it by selecting the "Data" tab. Very cool. Oh, don't forget to set your GPS "Interface" to "NMEA-out" (4800 baud). This is actually all a lot easier than it sounds... and most of this need be done but once. This is not only useful, solves a major connection problem that has no other solution I know of, it's also fun, and even educational because you know - Bluetooth is going to happen big time soon and will be everywhere. List Price: $68.95 (In the USA) | pPBT |
